  The "martydom" of witnesses!

  arrrghh...it amazes me!.

  i have just seen more witnesses from "my" congregation manning the "literature carts".. it is over 40c / 100f temp, with very high humidity as well... and there they are...in the heat...like martyrs....earning "god points".. they are being ignored by the very few passers by....all of whom are trying to get out of the heat.. what is the point!?!

  You must be right, Australia is in its summer season. I just googled it and it seems that those cart pushers better have suntan lotion plus enough water to fill up a toilet bowl.

  I remember, at one of the district conventions that was held at a sport stadium, seeing the Witnesses with umbrellas opened up. Right in front of me was this girl who was next to her mother both with umbrellas. However the little girl had a small child sized umbrella that was completely transparent.

  Has anyone ever wondered why Watchtower Jesus always sports a Western style beard? Also, the money bag on the table looks like a scrotum.

  hello all... i currently studying the bible teach book and i'm just curious what information does the study conductor record about the student and is it passed on??

  and they keep on saying "the truth" which is starting to get on my nerves.

  It was that phrase that I focused on in the last few months prior to my Disfellowshipping for apostacy. I basically said that they should not be calling themselves the "The Truth" even if they have the truth because it sounds arrogant. That did not settle well with the elders.

  As for your being a 'study' with the Witnesses many on this forum would suggest that you steer clear of it and cancel all meeting attendance.

  You're new here so I suggest doing some research on the 1001 threads that this site has. For example, look up the topic of sexual abuse and how the Watchtower acts like the Catholic Church in covering it up. The Watchtower simply is not interested in the well being of its members.

  Also, I would strongly suggest that you get a hold of the classic book Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz. He was a former member of the governing body who wrote about his experience in the Watchtower ruling circle. Briefly stated the Watchtower organization is a dictatorship.

  Although that book is out of print there are still a couple of used copies at Amazon for about less than $10.

  Whatever you do don't commit yourself any further to them.

  got myself in at age 13. one day i saw a leaflet on my door about babylon the great condemned by god and thats all it took.

  i mailed a letter to the congregation listed on the flyer requesting a book study.

  Thanks for the welcome smiddy. Looking back at our lives I wonder if we would have gone through the same hell if there was an Internet available back then.

  Thank you too for your welcome Sail Away. I'm sorry to hear about your son. Was his attempted suicide related to any Watchtower issues? Is your daughter completely out of The Lie?

  Thinking about thinking and upbringing

  i was thinking about being "brought up in the truth" as opposed to joining.. as a child's brain develops, it builds connections based on what it is taught.

  these connections are inseparable from the person in that our thoughts and memories actually become part of our personality (who we are).. a very simple example, might be being taught *not to do something* because it "displeases jehovah".

  the understanding of right and wrong is then set in the child's mind and built upon.. there are several points of thought i have about this fact.

  I believe that our characters are part genetically rooted and part upbringing/culture. I remember being very moralistic as a child before becoming a JW at age 13. I remained moralistic through my 8 years of being a JW and after my sudden exit I was still moralistic. Fortunately it's not the same 'morality' as theirs.

  Trashed WT's found in Dr.s' waiting room Friday. Do you trash literature you find?

  took the magazines in the waiting room and dumped them in the trash.

  was a great feeling.

  to think many witnoids wont dare throw out the surplus magazines they have in stacks around the house is amazing.

  I would not bother with labels or any reference to anti-JW websites. The people who read those magazines aren't really interested in the organization - just the content - so they're not going to bother researching an anti-organization website.

  I used to hit the laundry rooms on the way back from work. I had to stop trashing the literature in one of the Laundromats since the owner (not a JW) was always there and he wanted to keep the magazines so that his clients could have something to read.

  A long time ago, when I got peeved at the Witnesses in my large apartment complex, where most are JWs, I started putting literature from the Bible Students and The Worldwide Church of God right besides the watchtowers in laundry room. I did not touch their literature but I made a point of having both magazines side by side.

  I had no religious interest in my literature but I wanted to pick one that was doctrinally close to theirs just to show that they weren't as unique in their teachings as they think they are.

  A pissing contest soon ensued. They kept trashing my literature and I kept fishing it out of the trash and putting it right next to theirs. Once, somebody even stuffed my literature inside a discarded detergent bottle. I took it out and placed it again on the table even though it was soaked in detergent. Then one of the JWs started taking my literature and trashed it in the dumpsters one hundred feet away. I still had plenty left.

  The JW manager then asked if I would be happy if no one placed any literature including the JWs. That was fine with me. For years afterwards no one put any literature in that laundry room. They started to recently but I no longer care.
